TelOne Donates Clinic to Bende Village, Nyanga; helps alleviate health woes!
As part of Corporate Social Investment (CSI), TelOne recently donated a clinic to Nyanga’s Bende village. The establishment of the clinic is in response to the urgent need to bring the Bende community closer to health services.
The health facility was officially opened by Minister of Health and Child Care, Dr. D. Parirenyatwa in the presence of Nyanga Supa Foundation patron and Minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services and Nyanga South MP, Honourable S.C Mandiwanzira, local chief anf villagers on the 26th of October 2017.
The facility was handed over to the community under the care of Nyanga General Hospital who will manage the day to day running of the clinic. Over 4000 villagers are set to benefit from the establishment thus alleviating the plight of the Bende community who were walking between 35kmand 55km distances to get medical attention at Nyanga General Hospital and other clinics.
A tearful Headman Bonyongwe from the area could not hide his joy as he praised TelOne for the initiative. “We have had many deaths and lost pregnancies because of the distance we had to travel to the nearest health care facility. The road is so bad that in the rain season we can spend a week marooned here even when in need of emergency healthcare. At last our prayers have been answered”.
TelOne has four key thematic areas for CSR; Education, Environment, Social Welfare and Health. The development of the clinic falls under TelOne’s e-health programme under which will support various health initiatives across the country to increase access to health in different communities.
