In a drive to fight crime and vandalism, TelOne initiated an anti-vandalism campaign to curb theft of copper cables and telecommunications equipment. An increase in the number of copper cable thefts has been experienced of late fuelled by illegal copper dealers who are selling the scrap copper to neighbouring countries. Vandalism of telecommunications equipment is affecting service delivery and internet service provision to our clients.
A reward is being offered to members of the public who provide information on theft and vandalism of cables and equipment. The Postal and Telecommunications Act prescribes a mandatory sentence of ten years imprisonment for copper cable thieves and their accomplices. Which is inclusive of the confiscation of property used in transporting the stolen copper. Reporting any copper cable theft could help protect TelOne’s telecommunications infrastructure and you may be in line of earning yourself a reward!
